Tours Available Now through Labor Day Weekend
To share the historic significance of Tallac Historic Site, guided tours which range from one and half hours to two and a half hours are available.
The Tallac Historic Site property is free to the public to wander and enjoy. Although you may access the site year round, the site is only open for services, viewing, Tours, Programs and Special Events Memorial Day Weekend until Labor Day Weekend . Restroom facilities are typically available until mid-November.
All tours are guided by volunteers. Booking tours in advance is strongly recommended. Tours often sell out, so book well in advance of your preferred arrival date. Walk-ins are accommodated with space permitting. Tickets are available for advance purchase by calling the Tallac Museum 530-541-5227.
Pope House Tour
This engaging one-hour signature tour starts at the Tallac Museum courtyard, strolls through the gardens on the Baldwin Estate, Arboretum and pond, then takes you through the historic home that once welcomed Rudolph Valentino as a guest of the Pope family. Visits to the main room, dining room, servants kitchen and butlers pantry highlight the dramatic beauty of the Pope Estate’s landscaped grounds, outbuildings, servants quarters and lakeside views.
Tours begin on a scenic rustic summer estates that require a significant amount of standing, stair climbing and walking on uneven terrain. There are several steps and some without handrails. Some exterior walkways consist dirt, grass, loose gravel and pavement. Our public tours are not building accessible but pathways are. We can arrange private accessible tours with two weeks’ notice.
